How do you make ranch dip from scratch?
With just a few ingredients you can make the best ranch dressing and dip! We make this all the time.
When making healthier choices and choosing healthier foods for our family, one part of that has been a dip/dressing that we love. Choosing whole foods is something I am very conscious of.
I wanted a healthy dip for my vegetables and for my salad. Something without sugar, preservatives, and it had to taste good!
Ranch Dip for Veggies
Finding a dressing at the health food store, was never a flavor I liked. A strong vinaigrette is not something I’m really fond of. So I was in desperate need of finding something.
When I first started making my own, I was using my homemade mayonnaise and my creamy homemade yogurt. I have experimented around and found what we really like.
Recently, I started using sour cream instead and we really like it even better now!
These ingredients are so easy to pick up at the local store that you’ll never buy store-bought ranch dip/dressing again.
We love this ranch dip recipe for chips too. We buy this brand of potato chips Cape Cod or Boulder when we have a Fun Friday Free Day. Boulder is healthier because they use olive oil. Cape Cod uses vegetable oil.
You will love this and will never want another ranch dip again!
I mix all ingredients to taste. Add milk/buttermilk if you want a salad dressing. You could also make this with Greek yogurt or light sour cream. Regular sour cream has more fat and fewer carbohydrates. More fat helps you stay full longer.
Ingredients for Creamy Ranch Dip
- Sour cream (or substitute light sour cream or store-bought yogurt or my creamy homemade yogurt)
- chives-fresh or Litehouse freeze-dried. Not all chives taste the same and some have been an awful flavor
- salt (Find a good salt with minerals because it’s better for you. Table salt is bleached and stripped of all the minerals.)
- garlic powder
- onion powder–a good amount( the more I add the yummier it gets)
- freshly grated parmesan ( I don’t always have this so most of the time it’s made without it) Adding fresh parmesan adds so much flavor.
Note: If it tastes bland, just add more ingredients until the desired flavor
Optional ingredients for ranch dip
- dill may add a nice flavor
- fresh green onion
Note: You could make this with cream cheese for ranch dip without sour cream. I haven’t tried that, but if you do let me know how it tastes.
