One of my children (10 years old) had a really bad sickness and went to the doctor which is very rare for us. He said she had a really bad ear infection. They did not prescribe an ear drop medication. They gave her an internal medication.

We have successfully been able to treat sore throat, colds, and earaches with natural remedies. Here are my natural remedies for cold and flu.

How can I treat an ear infection at home?

Although we haven’t had many ear infections, I am reminded of one very specific time. My son came to me with a very red and swollen ear. His ear infection symptoms were very bad and I highly doubted I could do this home remedy.

Not thinking I would be able to treat it with a home remedy, I quickly did the protocol for ears. After a few treatments that day, the swelling started going down and the pain was subsiding.

I continued the treatment for a couple of days to make sure it was gone.

I couldn’t believe it! We were able to treat it without any antibiotics. We used numbers 2 and 4. I also rubbed oil around the ear.

Making healthier choices has helped us avoid sickness in general.

Natural Remedies for ear infection

1. Hydrogen Peroxide for ear infection

We have used this to clear up any ear pain before it leads to an infection. It really loosens the ear wax. This may clear it up without trying other remedies. I tend to like the other natural remedies better.

Have your child lay down and pour some in the ear canal. Have them stay on that side. It will bubble and it will feel so tickly. My kids hate it!

2. Colloidal silver for ear infection

Colloidal silver is minute silver particles suspended in a liquid. An antimicrobial that can kill microbes.

Put 2-3 drops of colloidal silver. This has been an amazing remedy. I have used this remedy and had success each time.

3. Tea Tree Oil for ear infections (aka Melaleuca oil)

Mix tea tree oil with another carrier oil like olive oil or coconut oil. Use a teaspoon of another carrier oil to every drop of tea tree oil.

I have read and some say not to put essential oils in the ear. You can rub it around the ear if you are concerned.

Tea tree oil for earache has really worked great for us. I have rubbed it mixed with coconut oil on their neck for the ear pain.

Tea tree oil has so many great uses. It is a staple in our home. We use it for several natural remedies.

4. Garlic for ear infection

Garlic is a powerful remedy. It is antibacterial also.

Mince a clove of garlic and soak in 2T of another oil (olive oil)for two hrs. Strain it and put 2 drops of garlic/oil in the infected ear.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar for ear infection

Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar with warm water. Apply 5-10 drops.

I have apple cider vinegar on hand. There are so many uses for apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is a great staple to have in your kitchen.

6. Vinegar and Alcohol for ear infection

We also use white vinegar/alcohol to clean the kids’ ears. This remedy seems to really soften the ear wax and hopefully clear the ears so we avoid an ear infection.

Even though alcohol may not be your first choice for a more natural remedy, it does work.

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and alcohol. This works great for just cleaning out the ears and keeping it dry. Sometimes this works and does the job. Our swim teacher suggested using this after their swim lessons.

Each day after swimming, we used this treatment and it has seemed to keep their ears clear of any discomfort.

We swam in our pond last summer and I definitely made them use these drops every day.

7. Olive oil for ears

Pour olive oil in your child’s ear. This will help loosen any wax build up. Which may give your child relief.
